With a plus of 4% to roughly 115.7m m³, North American lumber production increased in 2011 for the second year in succession, although the upward trend weakened in comparison to that seen in 2010, which had shown a year-on-year rise of 12% to 110.9m m³. Improvements in the last two years came on the heels of a sharp fall in production volume from 2005 until 2009. In 2005, North American lumber producers had reached a total production volume of 176.6m m³. In 2007, softwood-lumber production was still at 170.6m m³, followed in 2007 and 2008 by sharp declines to 153.6m m³ and 124.7m m³ respectively.
