Canadian OSB manufacturer Ainsworth Lumber Co has reported improved first quarter results thanks to stronger prices and better operating results at its three mills.
Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) totalled C$10m, up from C$7.3m in the prior quarter and C$3.6m a year ago.
Sales were C$85.1m, a C$13.6m growth over a year ago, due to volume and pricing increases, mainly in western Canada.
Ainsworth also reported softer sales to Japan as customers continued to work through their post-tsunami inventories.
The company is continuing to pursue the Japanese market, where it is the leading OSB supplier, because of the growth potential offered by the rebuilding phase following the devastating earthquake.
