Finland: plywood mill New colouring line (19/04/2012)

Koskisen Panel Products Industry invests in colouring line

A rebuilt colouring line was recently started up at Koskisen Oy’s Järvelä plywood mill. The investment, worth several hundred thousands of euros, enables the production of plywood and chipboard panels for the needs of the interior decoration and furniture industries in colours to suit customer preferences. The panels are coloured one side at a time, making it possible to produce panels with a different colour on each side. To increase the wear resistance of the panels, they can be coated on the hot press after colouring.

“The new line significantly broadens the scope for product customisation and the range of colours on offer for the panels. The panels can be coloured precisely to customers’ specifications and produced in limited series – even down to just one can of paint,” says Managing Director Pekka Päkkilä.
Earlier this week, dozens of customers from Finland and abroad visited Koskisen’s mill to see the new colouring line and its products. Among them was Sperrag from Switzerland, a company specialising in importing plywood from all over the world to Swiss timber traders.

Sperrag’s Supply Chain Manager Esther Wyrsch was pleased with the bright colours and consistent surface quality of the plywood panels produced with the new colouring line.

“The market in Switzerland is small compared to the rest of Europe and the orders are often quite unique. Competition is fierce particularly in standard plywood. It’s important for us to have a partner like Koskisen who has the capability to supply high-quality special products,” says Wyrsch.
