USA: Hardwood lumber exports to EU countries plunge 23% (23/08/2012)

US hardwood lumber exports to EU countries have fallen sharply by 23% to 87,341 m³ in the second quarter of 2012, according to information from the Foreign Agriculture Service in Washington D.C. In this vein, the regressive trend shown as early as the first quarter with -9% has clearly intensified in the second quarter. In the six-month period from January to June 2012 deliveries to the EU totalled 182,346 m³, which equates to a reduction by 16% compared to 2011. Back in the first half of the year 2007, buyers within the EU had still taken delivery of 362,683 m³ of US hardwood lumber. Deliveries to the EU thus roughly halved in the last five years.
