As expected, today the ITC voted to approve a petition and move forward with a full investigation into imposing tariffs on hardwood plywood imported from China.
Based on this decision, the case moves forward to the Department of Commerce, who will determine the amount of additional antidumping and countervailing (anti-subsidy) duties, if any, and then back to the ITC to make a final injury determination.
The American Alliance for Hardwood Plywood (AAHP) was formed to oppose the petition filed on September 27, 2012 with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). The petition asks that punitive 310% tariffs be imposed on hardwood imported from China that is used by American plywood manufacturers. The outcome of this case before the ITC will have a far reaching effect on your supply chain and create a level of tremendous uncertainty in the market place for at least five years.
In their own words: Find out what the petitioners are saying
The AAHP testified in Washington DC on October 18th as the lead voice in opposition to the petition and got the KCMA to join us at the table in formal opposition.

If the petitioned tariff is approved, up to half the world’s supply of hardwood plywood would be unavailable to U.S. manufacturers, creating an economic advantage for overseas producers of these products.
