More new homes being built locally and in the United States are seeing a lift in demand for our timber.

Newstalk ZB business correspondent Roger Kerr, says with the US forestry industry concentrating on local demand, our exporters are reaping the rewards in Asia.

"Already our log exporters to China are seeing stronger prices, as US logs are no longer exported into the Asian market.

"There is enough demand in the domestic US market."

Roger Kerr says while that's good news, high export prices are still causing concerns for local producers.
