Statistics produced by the Timber Trade Federation (TTF) show that British imports of plywood rose sharply by a total of 17.6% in the first three months of 2014 to 347,000 m³. These high import volumes, however, were achieved as a result of relatively poor reference figures for the first quarter of 2013 (-4%). At that time, imports from China as the most important hardwood plywood supplier country had slumped in March after a sharp rise in January and February. This year this base effect caused reverse development: after an increase to 131,000 m³ in January and a reduction to only 93,000 m³ in February, the volumes imported in March were almost double those of the same month of last year at 123,000 m³.
